Committees
Our Committees are the backbone of UPC management, and are key to the activities we enjoy. If you are interested in expressing your commitment to UPC by participating in any of our Committees, please contact Pastor Raube or any of our Committee chairs at any time!
The Building & Grounds Committee maintains & repairs the physical property of the Church. We handle general upkeep and maintenance , contracted services and major improvements. A major responsibility of this committee is to maintain the historic integrity of the Church. Are you handy, or know your way around contracts?
The Cemetery Committee is responsible for the financial and operational oversight of UPC's Riverside Cemetery. Members of the committee include the cemetery Business Manager and UPC Finance Manager.
The Finance & Endowment Committee consists of 2 members from Session, 2 members from the Board of Deacons and 4 members elected by the congregation. The Endowment Funds Treasurer (EFT) is a permanent member on the committee and is appointed by Session.
We:
- Manage UPC financial affairs, which includes conducting the stewardship campaign, generating/tracking the church budget and auditing our financial records.
- Oversee the management of the UPC endowment funds.
- Review/approve all distributions from the endowments and ensure that they meet the appropriate guidelines set forth by the contributor.
- The committee interfaces with our investment professionals to communicate our goals, objectives, policies and disbursement plans from our endowments. Serving on this ministry can be very rewarding. Do you know your way around a pencil, calculator, or spreadsheet?
The Membership & Fellowship committee ensures that our members and guests feel at home and connect not only with our Sunday worship service, but with our community of members and friends. We support the creation and functioning of small group ministries. Are you gregarious, do you like to plan events, or are you comfortable using tracking tools? If so, come enjoy some time with our committee!
The Mission committee is one of great drive and energy. We work to turn the inward spirit of our congregation into outward action to help our local community. Ours is a most generous Church and we take great pride in supporting a wide variety of causes. Please - come join us, and feel rewards like you've not felt before.
The Nominating & Scholarships committee has the very important role of reviewing applications and then nominating candidates for our UPC scholarships, awarded annually to highly qualified students from our ranks. We have had many, many students grow within our faith and prosper at the college level, thanks to their hard work and our congregation's generosity. Would you like to help shape a bright student's future path? Come join us and be amazed!
The UPC Nominating Committee has the responsibility of filling positions for Session, Board of Deacons and the Finance & Endowment Committee. The Session consists of twelve Church members, each serving a period of three years. The Board of Deacons is comprised of twelve individuals who also serve three years.
UPC is blessed to have funds provided by members specifically designated for scholarships. Currently the Scholarship Fund receives money from the UPC Scholarship Fund (funds donated by Harriet R. Darmody, Kenneth L. White and Ethelyn I. Hewitt), the UPC College Scholarship Fund and other donations.
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students who plan to continue their education and who have been graduated from high school. Eligible educational activities include full or part-time enrollment at an accredited college or university, technical or trade school, nursing school, or in any training experience preparing a person for a vocation.
Applications are accepted annually (due the first Friday in June) and scholarships may be granted on an re-curring annual basis except for extenuating circumstances as determined by the Scholarship Committee.
Further information is available from the Church office.
The Personnel Committee assists and guides Session in choosing and managing our wonderful employees. We help with the hiring process and monitor contracts and evaluations of performance. Do you have experience in management? Might you be willing to lend a few hours of your talent?
The purpose of the Worship and Music Committee is to enrich the overall worship program and help our wonderful Pastor make our services meaningful. The committee consists of members of the congregation and the music staff of the church, including the music director, choir directors, and organist. The committee is primarily responsible for filling the pulpit when the minister is unavailable, planning special worship services, scheduling the support aspects of worship services, and planning the musical aspect of services. This most important ministry needs members who really care about the depth and quality of our worship experience at UPC. Are you that person?
The purpose of the Christian Education Committee is to ensure that our theological teachings are well taught to our children, youth, and adults alike. We strive to draw lessons from the Bible to enrich each of us in ways that touch us personally in our daily lives. We hold a variety of classes on Sunday mornings as well as on Wednesday evenings.
